Aix is a city located in southern France. It is a region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur, under the control of Bouches-du-Rhone. Aix was founded in 123 BC by Roman consul Sextius Calvinus.

The Olive Oil manufactured and extracted from this area is well-known all over the world. There are several vineyards which are between Aix and the River Durance. This place is also well-known for manufacturing of Calissons which are lozenge-shaped toffee made from almonds and melon.


Every year in early September, there is a mass gathering in the medieval church of St. Jean de Malte to bless the calissons – la benediction des calissons. This ceremony of blessing calissons is held to mark the recovery of Aix from plague; a severe illness that attacked this place in seventeenth century. This ceremony is accompanied by an exhibition where the local craftsmen showcase their talents and put up their wares for display and sale.


The chocolate made in the north of Aix is well recognized in the world. The well recognized Chocolaterie de Puyricard is located in the north of Aix.


Transport Facilities:


There is an ancient network of roads that goes out of the city to the surrounding countryside. There are also a significant number of modern auto routes connecting Aix to nearby towns. An auto route is a French word for a primary high-speed road restricted to motor vehicles with out crossings and having limited access. These are comparable to motorways.


TGV train network also connects this place to rest of France. You can reach Paris from nearby cities like London and then take TGV to reach here.
